Here are three key details from this developing story:
1. Who is the suspect?
The suspect identified himself as Conrad Davis, 27, from Pensacola, Fla., although law enforcement said he’s from Cookeville, Tenn. Davis said he works construction and was travelling to New York.
Walking with police escort from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office across Second Street to the county jail, Davis appeared covered in mud as he told our news crew what happened.
Davis said the woman shot was his significant other, although we’re working to confirm that with police. Davis said the gun belonged to him and cried as he was taken into jail.
“I’m so sorry,” Davis told Marshall. “I’m so ashamed.”
2. What led to the shooting?
Brookville officers were dispatched around 9:40 p.m. to assist the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which had a vehicle flee from a traffic stop. One responding officer reported locating a woman running through an old BP lot and toward Speedway, according to the Brookville police scanner traffic.
As police were looking for the female, shots rang out at the Speedway on Arlington Road, where a female was killed and a police officer was shot.
Early Tuesday, officials were still working to piece together the incident.
We’re awaiting further details from the Brookville Police Department about the injured officer who was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. On Tuesday morning, the chief said the officer “remains in good spirits” and is stable.
“There’s no need for any public safety concerns,” Jerome said.
3. Where was the suspect found?
Officers took Davis into custody at a residence on Brookville Phillipsburg Road, near Access Road in Clay Twp., around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police reported a vehicle was in a pond at the intersection.
Betty Armstrong owns the property where Davis was found. She told News Center 7’s Lauren Clark she went out to get the newspaper and came back inside before police arrived at her home.
“So I started watching to see what was going on over there,” Armstrong said. “I saw them come through the backyard with the dog and go in front of barn and the dog went crazy and they found him in the camper.”
