Dayton police release video of Taser incident

A man accused of resisting arrest in Dayton last week found himself on the business end of a Taser, only minutes after being pepper sprayed by the mother of his child.

Video of the July 8 incident at the Eagle Ridge Apartments, released Monday, shows police using the Taser on Andre Lashawn Evans, 33, who is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and domestic violence.

Police were called that night after security guards asked for assistance in quelling a fight between Evans and a 29-year-old woman, according to the Dayton police report.

Evans allegedly threw a brick at her after she yelled at him to leave, which prompted her to douse his face with pepper spray, according to the report.

The woman told police Evans is the father of one of her children, but she broke up with him because he was abusive and didn't take care of his child, according to the report.

Once on scene, police wrangled with Evans on the ground to get handcuffs on him. After being put in the back of the cruiser, Evans complained he couldn't breathe and was kicking at the windows and doors, according to the report.

Police said one of the officers opened a door to provide air circulation, but Evans continued to kick and struggle.

One officer eventually "drive stunned" Evans with a Taser to get him under control, according to the report.

Evans was treated and released at Grandview Hospital before being taken to jail. He is scheduled for a court appearance on Thursday.
