Kettering granddad charged with endangering kids

A Kettering grandfather has been charged with endangering children.

Jia Dong, 63, is to appear Friday, March 7, at Kettering Municipal Court, Kettering police said Monday.

On Feb. 23, police and fire crews responded to a house fire on Vera Place. Dong left the home with food cooking in the kitchen, police say, and the unattended food caused a fire. Firefighters rescued his three granddaughters, ages 6, 4 and 2 years old, from the house.

Dong was served a summons in lieu of arrest, after the prosecutor's office reviewed the case.

Endangering children is a first-degree misdemeanor and could result in a $1,000 fine and/or a six-month jail sentence.
