“I just heard a single gunshot and when I got up from my chair and came outside I saw Mr. John on the floor taking his last breath,” Von Adams said. “The majority of us saw death up close. It’s not a good thing to witness.”
Those witnesses assisted officers in quickly identifying Felton as the suspect. Lt. Wendy Stiver said detectives would interview Felton before booking him into the Montgomery County Jail, and that the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office would ultimately decide what charges he should face.
Felton has previous felony convictions for carrying a concealed weapon and burglary. Stiver said Turner knew Felton and the pair were reportedly engaged in an argument when “Mr. Felton produced a gun and shot the victim.”
Turner’s death marks Dayton’s 11th homicide this year, and is the third reported this week.
