3 new things to know about the Greene County double homicide

Here are three things we know about the Greene County double homicide following a press conference held today by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. William “Skip” Brown and Sherri Mendenhall were found dead Sunday. .

1. Sheriff: William Brown was target in killing

Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer said their investigation has led them to believe William “Skip” Brown, 44, was targeted in the homicide. Brown was shot “multiple times” according to Fischer.

Sherri Mendenhall, 63, was shot once, Fischer said.

2. Non-emergency call released

This news organization has received a copy of the call made to Yellow Springs police, via their non-emergency line, Sunday afternoon that began a double homicide investigation with the Greene County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The female caller, who is unnamed, told dispatchers there was a middle-aged woman, in a black and white dress, lying in the driveway by the side of the road. The caller said the woman appeared to be bleeding.

The dispatcher stayed on the call with the jogger while she relayed the information to Yellow Springs police, confirming the location.

3. The female victim had been deceased for some time

While sheriff Fischer would not go into detail as to the time the killings may have occurred, he did confirm that a “few” hours had passed before the jogger discovered the body Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded around 3 p.m. Sunday to the jogger’s call, where they then discovered the bodies.

The police do not have a suspect and are asking anyone with information to call the sheriff’s office at 937-562-4815.
