Needham hit his head when he fell, causing his death. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. June 30 at a residence on Oregonia Road in Turtlecreek Twp.
Prosecutor Julie Kraft previously wanted the young man, who would turn 18 next month, tried as an adult, but she withdrew that motion after he admitted to the crime.
Judge Mike Powell said he will schedule sentencing for the boy once he can determine who legally has custody of the teen, who was considered a missing child after his uncle, who was his most recent guardian, passed away.
Powell denied bond for the teen, who will remain in the juvenile detention center.
