Trotwood woman found guilty in fatal crash

A Trotwood woman was found guilty as charged for a traffic crash that killed another motorist and an unborn child, and injured two others.

Kiara Scales, 25, was found guilty of two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of vehicular assault in the July 2014 crash in Dayton.

The disturbance happened in the area of Siebenthaler and Philadelphia avenues, and continued to a crash scene at the intersection of West Grand and Forest avenues.

According to eyewitnesses, the defendant’s vehicle crossed the center line and was traveling at a high rate of speed when it ran through a red light and struck a pickup truck at the intersection, according to a media release.

Anthony Juan Foreman, 60, a passenger in the truck later died at a hospital.

A second victim, a passenger in the defendant’s vehicle, was five months pregnant. She suffered serious injuries and her unborn fetus died from injuries he sustained in the crash, according to a release.

Scales will be sentenced Jan. 10, 2017, where she’s expected to also enter a guilty plea to an additional count of vehicular assault for the driver of the pickup truck that was seriously injured.
