Fire destroys Oxford student rental house

The Oxford fire department continues to investigate a fire that gutted a student rental house early this morning.

Dispatchers said the home at 115 Bishop St. was empty when crews responded to the scene just after 2 a.m. Miami University is currently on spring break.

No nearby homes were damaged, but some cars parked near the house were damaged, according to our news partner WCPO.

Oxford Fire Chief John Detherage said the back of the home and the kitchen area were the most heavily damaged.

Three Miami University students died in an off-campus house fire in April 2005, according to Journal-News archives.
