Flower Factory in Wash. Twp. to shut doors

Company’s owner awaiting sentencing for failure to pay sales taxes

The Flower Factory store in Washington Twp. will close because the Ohio-based chain is going out of business.

An employee of the retail store at 480 Miamisburg-Centerville Road confirmed the closing. The store is having a going-out-of-business sale, but a date for the closing hasn’t been set.

Flower Factory employs about 18 workers in the Washington Twp. location, the employee said.

The closing also impacts Flower Factory locations in Canton and Columbus.

The sale comes on the heels of owner Christopher J. Mulqueen pleading guilty on Oct. 5 to failure to remit sales taxes, according to the Canton Repository. Mulqueen faces six to 18 months in prison and is set for sentencing on Nov. 9.

Customers were notified of the closing Thursday in a mass email.

In September, Mulqueen was arrested on felony theft charges for failing to pay between $150,000 and $750,000 in state sales taxes, the Repository reported. Court papers claimed he had failed to file his sales taxes between May 2014 and April 2015.

Flower Factory is a retailer and wholesaler of home decorations, crafts, party supplies and seasonal decorations.
