Free cab rides offered to holiday revelers in Montgomery Co.

The Montgomery County Prosecutor is teaming up with local businesses to offer a program that offer travelers free cab rides home during the holiday.

ArriveSafe will be offering free cab rides home for Montgomery County residents from 6 p.m. today through 6 a.m. Sunday.

“This is the season to be thankful. Please celebrate responsibly and don’t risk your life or the lives of others,” Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jr. said. “Arrange for safe transportation with a designated, sober driver or call ArriveSafe at 449-9999 and request a free cab ride home. We will pay the fare up to $50.”

There were more than 12,500 reported OVI-related crashes in Ohio last year and 346 people lost their lives.

During the five-day Thanksgiving holiday period last year in Ohio, there were 4,007 crashes, resulting in 1,417 injuries and nine deaths.

Alcohol was a factor in nearly half of the fatal crashes during the holiday period.

The Montgomery County Prosecutor is teaming with AAA and Heidelberg Distributing to offer ArriveSafe. Since Heck began ArriveSafe in 2007, nearly 5,300 free cabs rides have been provided to Montgomery County residents.

This year in Montgomery County, there have been more than 250 alcohol-related traffic crashes, in which 16 people lost their lives.
