Webb, who was voted to his first office in November 2009, filed election papers, which were certified in August by the Montgomery County Board of Elections.
He informed the board in writing on Wednesday of his decision to quit the race.
A Republican, he ran unsuccessfully for Montgomery County Commission in November 2012.
One factor in his decision was his purchase in July of Paradigm Industrial, a Dayton machining, welding and contract manufacturing company with 31 employees.
He said he also wants to have more time to spend with his family, which includes children ages 13, 16 and 18.
“I just decided that ending my candidacy was the best thing to do. No matter which two of us would be elected, I’m confident the city of Kettering would be well served. Amy will continue to do a very good job. Bill is a good guy who is committed to the community and really wants to be on council. A potentially contentious campaign wouldn’t have been good for anyone moving forward,”Webb said.
“I won’t rule out running for office again in the future. I might run for a ward seat in Kettering down the road or for county commission,” he said.
