Krispy Kreme to close only Dayton-area shop

Krispy Kreme will permanently close its only Dayton-area doughnut shop at 2001 E. Dorothy Lane in Kettering effective Jan. 31, the store's general manager said this morning, Jan. 20.

Manager Carl Carlson said the Winston-Salem, N.C.-based doughnut chain made the “difficult decision” to shut down the Kettering store. He said the company recognized such a decision has an impact on the community and on the store’s workers. The 20 employees will receive additional pay and the possibility of transferring to another Krispy Kreme location, Carlson said.

There are no other Krispy Kreme locations in the Dayton area, however. The company operates a retail doughnut shop in Anderson Twp. in the Cincinnati area and three locations in the Columbus area, the manager said.

The Kettering store opened in 1999.
