ACLU threatens to sue over RNC rally permits

The American Civil Liberties Union is threatening legal action against the city of Cleveland for delaying the release of permits for rallies planned outside the Republican National Convention on July 18.

ACLU Executive Director Christine Link sent a letter to the city asking that the permits be granted.

Otherwise, Link said, legal action may follow.

She said it was unreasonable for the city to withhold the permits until the last minute before the convention.

The ACLU is representing two groups from different ends of the political spectrum that are seeking permits, Citizens for Trump and the anti-poverty organization “Organize Ohio.”
