Police: Dayton man whose body is found by an employee is possible homicide victim

UPDATE @ 9:00 a.m. (April 28):

The cause and manner of death of a man found near the Richard Allen Academy is listed as pending by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, according to a spokesperson.

Claude Williams, 50, was found dead near a fence close to the school by an employee, police said.

Dayton police are investigating as a homicide the death of a man whose body was found this morning by an employee when she arrived at a local school.

The man was identified as 50-year-old Claude Williams of Dayton by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office. A Dayton police spokeswoman confirmed the case is a suspected homicide, but said she could not provide details on why it is suspected. An autopsy will provide more information, she said.

An employee at Richard Allen Academy in the 100 block of Salem Avenue discovered Williams’ body around 7:15 a.m. in an alley near the school, according to police.

"He's on the other side of the fence where I park," the teacher told 911 dispatchers. "His phone's lying next to him."

UPDATE @ 3:45 p.m.:

The man found dead this morning by an employee has been identified as 50-year-old Claude Williams of Dayton, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

No cause or manner of death was available as autopsy results are not in yet, the coroner’s office said.

UPDATE @ 9:03 a.m.:

A teacher at Richard Allen Academy discovered a man’s body in an alley near the school when she arrived in the parking lot this morning, according to police.

“He’s on the other side of the fence where I park,” the teacher told 911 dispatchers. “His phone’s lying next to him.”

Police said they are considering the death suspicious, however are working to determine how the man died.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office will determine the man’s cause and manner of death following an autopsy.

INITIAL REPORT:

A body was found in an alley near the Richard Allen Academy school on Salem Avenue this morning.

Police responded to the 100 block of Salem Avenue around 7:15 a.m.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office removed the body from the scene, police said.
