Butler Twp. approves November police funding levy

Butler Township voters will decide in November whether to pass a levy securing the future of the township’s police force.

Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday night to put a 3.5-mill levy on November’s ballot. If approved by voters, the funds will create an emergency fund to curb future expenses.

Butler Township Budget Commissioner, Greg Brush, says the levy needs to pass in order to avoid pulling money from the township’s general fund.

“While we all have different takes on the details of funding the police department, there is no debate that the township has a serious funding problem that we have to address. The general fund cannot continue to supplement the police fund,” Bush said.
