Police were dispatched around 2:50 a.m. Friday morning to a reported shooting at 58 Chase Drive in Centerville. It was there police found 26-year-old Aaron Davis with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Investigators said as the first suspected shooter, Anthony J. Walker, 32, of Dayton was attempting to leave the complex, a second shooter fired at least eight shots at him. Police have identified the second alleged shooter as Devon H. Taylor, 32, from Dayton. According to Centerville Police, Taylor chased after Walker and fired multiple gunshots at Walker and his vehicle.

Here’s what we know now about Friday’s shooting:

1) Family ties

Centerville Communications Officer John Davis said one of the shooters and the victim have “familial ties.”

According to John Davis, Aaron Davis of Dayton is the brother of the female resident at 58 Chase Drive. Walker is the father of the resident’s children.

2) Children on the scene

At least four innocent bystanders were present when the initial shooting occurred inside the apartment, including least two children, officer John Davis said.

No one, with the exception of Aaron Davis, was injured in the shooting.

3) Complex not a problem area

Chevy Chase Park Apartments isn’t considered a problem area for Centerville Police, according to John Davis. He said the apartment complex receives about the same number of calls to service for similar residential areas.

“We don’t have any glaring issues,” Davis said. “What we find is that when we have problems down there is it’s usually not the residents, it’s people visiting.”

4) Cause for Dispute

John Davis said there was “no indication” the shooting that took place inside the apartment was related to any other criminal activity. Instead, Aaron Davis and Walker were involved in a “domestic dispute” surrounding a disagreement over the children.

The shooting that occurred outside of the apartment allegedly between Walker and Taylor was in retaliation to the shooting inside the apartment.

5) Who are the shooters?

Devon Taylor’s relationship with the victim and the shooter were not clear, though police say “they all know each other.” Davis has been arrested multiple times since 2006, including an arrest for aggravated burglary in 2012. He’s sitting in Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of felonious assault.

Walker is also in Montgomery County Jail on two counts for suspicion of felonious assault and one suspicion of child endangering. He has been arrested multiple times since 2002, including multiple domestic violence arrests. Walker drove himself to the police station to turn himself in.

Both were arraigned this morning in Kettering Municipal Court.
