Crews battle two-alarm garage fire in Jefferson Twp.

Update@4:40 a.m.

The garage fire was quickly contained, so it did not spread to nearby structures, although the heat caused the siding of a home to slightly melt, said Lt. Ben Norrod of the Jefferson Twp. Fire Department.

When they arrived at the scene, firefighters were afraid that the fire could spread to nearby structures, so they called for additional crews. They also called for additional tankers to bring additional water because the nearly fire hydrant is about two miles away, Norrod said.

There were not injuries reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.

First report:

Firefighters are battling a detached garage fire that was reported on West Third Street early this morning.

Crews dropped a second alarm for the fire due to the garage in the 7800 block being fully engulfed in flames just after 3 a.m., per initial reports.

The blaze possibly spread to another nearby structure, according to emergency scanner traffic.

We’re on our way to the scene and will continue to update this story with more.
