Crews canvas river after overturned canoe spotted

Firefighters in Dayton were sent on a potential water rescue this morning, only to find an overturned canoe in the chilly Great Miami River.

Crews were dispatched shortly before 11 a.m. after the dispatch center got a 9-1-1 call from a passerby who saw the canoe, according to a Dayton fire official on scene.

No one was in the water or needed rescued, according to the official. Crews canvassed a long stretch of the river but did not see signs of anyone needing rescued.

The water rescue team removed the overturned canoe from the river. Officials were attempting to contact the canoe’s owner to ensure that person was OK.
