Fire officials investigating fire at abandoned structure in Dayton

UPDATE @ 3:56 a.m.:

Fire officials are investigating after a fire in an abandoned building on McArthur Avenue this morning.

According to Capt. Fred Haney, when crews arrived around 2 a.m., they found a well-involved fire in the rear of the structure in its second and third floors. Fire crews were able to aggressively combat the flames, although additional crews were called to the scene due to the size of the structure.

Haney said that the structure appeared to have been vacant for years, and had no electricity or natural gas. He added that the fire seemed suspicious.

Crews are currently looking for hot spots, and the investigation into the fire is ongoing.

UPDATE @ 2: 47 a.m.:

Crews are working on a structure fire in the 1500 block of McArthur Avenue, although the original call listed the 1400 block.

The structure appears to be a large, two-story residence, according to our crew on scene.
