Dense fog hinders travel tonight, reduces visibility

Areas of dense fog have formed across the Miami Valley with visibility dropping into the late evening.

The visibility is around a half-mile in many locations, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said.

“Light winds and moisture trapped near the surface are helping to create the fog,” Elwell said. “We do anticipate a breeze will  help improve visibility around daybreak Saturday.”

However, those who have to travel overnight into Saturday morning are urged to allow extra time to reach destinations. Also, motorists should slow down and use low-beam headlines to help improve visibility.

“The good news is, temperatures should remain above freezing overnight, keeping the roads just wet instead of icy,” Elwell said.
