District hires lead principal for Springfield High School

Springfield High School’s first lead principal will start this summer.

Patrick Smith was hired tonight by the Springfield City School District’s Board of Education during its regularly scheduled board meeting.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Patrick Smith to lead Springfield High,” Superintendent Robert Hill said in a statement. “Patrick is an enthusiastic educator who clearly puts serving the needs of all students first. He emerged as the top choice after interviews with students, staff, parents and community members.”

The lead principal is a new position after the district decided to revise its high school administrative structure to meet the needs of students, the district said.

Patrick is a native of New York state, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He taught high school in New York City and then moved to Colorado where he worked as a teacher and in administrative roles, most recently as an assistant principal in Colorado Springs. His wife is an Ohio native and teacher, along with their young son will move to Springfield early this summer, according to the district.
