The exhibit is a hands-on tour of a mock teenage bedroom that shows possible signs of drug abuse.
Staged in a trailer, the exhibit travels the country to help parents and caregivers have an idea of what to look for when it comes to drug use.
“We hope that when they leave the trailer they have a base of knowledge, if they were to find any of these items, and question their children,” said Joseph Abdala, executive director of Code 3 Association, a partner of the exhibit.
The scene includes things found in most teens’ bedrooms — dirty clothes, an unmade bed — but also has some disturbing clues.
As some who works for Dayton Children’s Hospital and often helps grandparents raising young kids, Kimberly Pruitt said the exhibit was an eye-opener.
“How things are hidden, like in water bottles and Pringle cans,” said Pruitt. “I learned about the knows. The plastic that’s tied. If you find it in your laundry, that’s a sign.”
With Saturday being National Drug Take Back Day, those attending the exhibit are also being given prescription disposal bags.
Last year, an estimated 460 tons of pills were turned in across the country.
