Group offering income tax assistance in Greene County

GREENE COUNTY – The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is offering free tax help to those who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English speaking skills who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.

IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

This year, the IRS has changed the software used to create and file tax returns. As a result, none of the “carry forward” data from your previous returns will be available this year when VITA offers its assistance.

It is critical to bring a social security for yourself and anyone you are claiming. Also, bring last year’s return, as it is needed to capture information related to rentals, health savings account, IRAs, and so on. These are essential to receive the assistance of VITA.

For a list of needed documents, review the "What to Bring" list on the IRS website.

VITA services will be available at both the Xenia and Beavercreek library locations.

Hours and days can be found on the Greene County Library website, www.greenelibrary.info. CASEY LAUGHTER
