Gunman robs Dollar General in Kettering; fifth area Dollar General hit in 6 days

UPDATE @ 10:20 p.m.: The description of the man who robbed the Dollar General in Kettering tonight is similar to the man described in the robberies of four other area stores in six days, police Lt. Lee Sanders said, but Kettering police "don't have anything else to connect to the other ones."

Sanders said the robber came in about 8 p.m., displayed what appeared to be a handgun, and made off with an undetermined amount of cash.

An employee at a nearby business said he saw the robber. This news organization is not identifying the employee by name or the business because the robber remains on the loose.

“I noticed a guy in all black run right past the store and peek back,” the employee said. “It’s a scary thought that someone is armed and running through the streets just robbing stores.”

INITIAL REPORT

The Dollar General store on East Stroop Road in Kettering has been robbed by a gunman, the fifth robbery of an area Dollar General store since Friday.

Police were dispatched to the store sometime after 8 p.m. on the report of an armed robbery. Beavercreek police are on scene as well and we are trying to determine their involvement in the investigation.

Employees tell us the gunman, who was wearing dark eyeglasses, came in and demanded cash. They gave him cash from the register and he ran off when they couldn't open the store safe on his request.

On Halloween night, a gunman wearing glasses robbed the Dollar General on West Third Street in Trotwood about 8:13 p.m. and police said they believe he is the same invader responsible for the robberies of three other area Dollar General stores since Friday (Oct. 27).

]The other Dollar General armed robberies occurred Oct. 27 in Dayton and minutes later in Harrison Twp., and on Oct. 30 in Clayton.
