Local teachers awarded grants

VANDALIA – Three area teachers were among the 91 recipients of Make Activities Count (MAC) grants from McDonald’s Restaurants of the Miami Valley.

Local recipients were: Kate Brookshire (Morton Middle School), Christina Zink (Helke Elementary), and Amy Heis (Helke Elementary). Alan Herzog, president of McDonald’s Restaurants of the Miami Valley made the presentations.

The grants are designed to support hands-on activities inside the classroom for grades kindergarten through eighth.

“Education plays a vital role in improving our community and creating a brighter future for our children,” said Herzog. “Through the MAC grants program, we’re able to directly give back to the students, teachers and communities in our neighborhoods to help engage students and teachers in a lifelong passion for learning.”

Over the last 14 years, McDonald’s Restaurants of the Miami Valley has awarded more than $500,000 to support supplemental classroom projects. This year’s winning classrooms will use the grants to support unique learning experiences like science experiments, music appreciation, computer coding and more.
