Jan. 2 marked the first day to register for the Miami Valley sporting event that attracts 15,000 runners around the world every fall.
Those who wanted to register on the main website but could not were directed to https://secure.getmeregistered.com. Once there, they could type Air Force Marathon in the search box in the upper right hand corner.
Organizers also told registrants to launch a Google search for "2017 Air Force Marathon." The main website is: www.usafmarathon.com.
Aguiar said a similar problem briefly cropped up on the first day of registration last year. This time, the problem was fixed about an hour after registration opened. Just before noon Monday, about 1,600 people had registered, mostly for the half-marathon and the popular 10K race, he said.
Registering on day one had an extra incentive: Participants saved $10 on entry fees for the full- and half-marathon and $5 on the 10K and 5K races. “Members have told us it’s an incentive,” he said. “People want to save a little bit of money.”
The full- and half-marathon and 10K are set Sept. 16 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. The 5K race is set for Sept. 15 at Wright State University’s Nutter Center.
This year, the event will tie in with the 70th anniversary of the Air Force becoming a separate service branch, said spokeswoman Marie Vanover.
