    UPDATE @ 11:40 p.m. (Sept. 2):

    A fourth person indicted on charges accusing eight people of being part of what authorities are calling a large-scale Mexican drug ring was booked into the Miami County Jail. Arrest warrants have been issued for four others.

    • Jose Barajas, 36, formerly of Huber Heights, was nabbed Sept. 1 in the Dayton area by the Montgomery County Regional Agencies Narcotics & Gun Enforcement Task Force
    • Mario Segura, 32, his brother, Erick Segura, 24, and Erick Segura's wife, Aleesha Segura, 22, were arrested Aug. 31 at their home in the 100 block of North First Street in Tipp City by Miami County sheriff's deputies

    A Miami County grand jury accuses them of being part of a operation that smuggled large quantities of heroin and methamphetamine into the Miami Valley, law enforcement officials said.

    Indictments include more than 100 charges each of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity; aggravated funding of drug trafficking and money laundering in addition to drug possession, officials said Thursday.

    Miami County Chief Deputy Dave Duchak said the investigation started about two years ago when a community member provided information about alleged importing of large amounts of drugs from Mexico to Miami and surrounding counties.

    Duchak said the investigation included executing search warrants in Miami, Montgomery and Clark counties starting 18 months ago and examining documents including bank records.

    “The evidence they collected ties them directly to at least 36 kilos they can show were being brought into the Miami Valley for sale,” Duchak said. Nearly $600,000, seven vehicles and an ATV were confiscated and a house in Tipp City has a lien for forfeiture, investigators said.

    Arrest warrants are issued for:

    • Dora and Hugo Avendano, 37 and 31, formerly of Tipp City;
    • Jose Galvin, 32, formerly of New Carlisle; and
    • Ricardo Mondragon, 26, formerly of Dayton
