I-75 ramp to US 35 closed for months

The Interstate 75 modernization project may be finished, but construction on I-75 is not.

The ramp from southbound I-75 to westbound U.S. 35 is now closed and will remain shut down through September.

“It kind of did confuse the heck out of me,” said James Bennett of Springfield, who was driving through the area with his wife Tonya.

“We got directions to where we were supposed to go,” Tonya Bennett said. “They told us to get off at (U.S.) 35 west, but we couldn’t because it was blocked. We really had no idea which way to go.”

Ohio Department of Transportation officials say this $11 million project to replace the bridge deck and beam was not included in the I-75 modernization project.

The detour at southbound I-75 at Edwin C. Moses directs the motorist to get off, curve around and head back onto northbound I-75. From there you can continue to westbound U.S. 35.

The ramp was built in the 1960s and repairs were needed, ODOT officials say.
