Lightning strike likely cause of Washington Twp. house fire

Washington Twp. fire crews believe a lightning strike is to blame for a Saturday morning house fire.

Firefighters at the scene told our crew a fire investigator is working to determine a cause and assessing damages.

At least three people were home at the time of the fire and all made it out safely, according to firefighters.

Crews said the family told dispatchers lightning struck the home shortly before the fire started.

As crews battled the fire from inside the house, the structure began to collapse and crews were forced to extinguish the flames from outside.

Firefighters said more damage was caused to the house due to the extensive amount of water used to contain the fire.

Fire crews continue to work to put out a house fire in Washington Twp. Saturday morning.

Dispatchers said firefighters from both Washington Twp. and Bellbrook are currently at the scene.

Our crew in the area reports the roof of the home in the 6800 block of Late Autumn Court is gone following the fire.

The homeowner called 911 to report the fire, according to dispatchers, and said everyone was safely out of the house.

The roof of a Washington Twp. home has reportedly collapsed during a house fire.

Crews were dispatched to the 6800 block of Late Autumn Court around 4:35 a.m. on a report of a fire.

Initial reports indicate crews encountered heavy smoke, but no flames when they first arrived on scene.

According to scanner traffic, crews were ordered to evacuate the homes after a portion of the roof collapsed.
