Centerville High School graduate Eric Fanning was questioned by the Senate Armed Services Committee during hearings to confirm him as secretary of the Army.

Fanning told the committee that he is worried about plans to reduce the Army’s size to 450,000 active-duty troops.

If confirmed, Fanning would be the first openly gay secretary of a military branch.

Fanning, who graduated from Centerville High School in 1986, served as acting secretary of the Air Force between April and December 2013, and visited Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in that role. He was undersecretary of the Air Force for two years, and a former deputy undersecretary of the Navy.
