SWAT call in Bradford for ‘suicide by cop’ threat

A man who threatened “suicide by cop” is expected to survive after he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound tonight, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

A SWAT team responded to South Miami Avenue and East Smithfield Street and blocked off the area as a precaution. However, the man had shot himself before officers arrived. He was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, deputies said.

SWAT officers responded to South Miami Avenue and East Smithfield Street, where they blocked off the area.

We’re working to confirm reports a person inside an apartment may have been injured by a self-inflicted gunshot. A CareFlight medical helicopter was called to the area, but the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and flight staff would not confirm the helicopter was called for a gunshot victim or in connection to the SWAT incident.

We’re working to learn more about a situation developing in Bradford.

This newsroom has heard from several residents who tell us the Miami County Sheriff’s Office is blocking traffic at South Miami Avenue and East Smithfield Street.

Early, unconfirmed reports indicate SWAT officers are on scene because of a suicidal male inside an apartment near that intersection.
