Too cute! Baby hippo Fiona catches a glimpse of her parents

The Cincinnati Zoo is preparing for Fiona, the baby hippo born prematurely, to meet her parents.

A previous blog post from the zoo stated that as Fiona’s health improves, they expect the calf to be introduced back to her parents, Henry and Bibi, within the next several weeks.

ANOTHER MILESTONE: Fiona closer to meeting her parents

But as the preparation for the hippo family to reunite continues, we couldn’t help but swoon over the most recent picture posted on the Cincinnati Zoo’s blog of Fiona catching a glimpse of her parents in their outdoor habitat.

The zoo also noted in a blog post today that the climate in Africa is constantly changing, which greatly impacts a hippo’s habitat.

“Increasing global temperatures and shifts in participation patterns will lesson the amount of water these lands receive, directly impacting the hippo’s home,” the zoo’s post said.

Reducing fossil fuel usage and carbon dioxide gas emissions are two ways we can help protect both the livelihoods and habitats for future generations of healthy and happy hippos, the zoo said.
