Sober Lotus Recovery Housing started fundraising this year and was recently granted $10,000 by Miami Valley's 100 Women.

The Xenia-based nonprofit was founded by Rachel and Mike Wise, a husband and wife who work with the Women’s Recovery Center and Woodhaven Treatment Center to help women recovering from addiction.

The short-term goal of Sober Lotus is to acquire a house where women can go after leaving the treatment center to help them transition back into society; the long-term goal is to eventually provide a second home that can accommodate children, according to Jackie Andrews, Sober Lotus board president.

"Women coming out of treatment centers tend to go back into the situations they're trying to leave," Andrews said. "We're right at that point to get enough money to get that first house."

Sober Lotus fundraising efforts so far have involved selling T-shirts, hosting a chili cook-off and a cut-a-thon at the Sass Salon and Spa in Xenia. The organization hosted a 5K race earlier this month.
