Man arrested for tailing, threatening plainclothes cops

Two plainclothes Dayton police officers on Monday afternoon arrested a driver for allegedly driving aggressively and displaying a handgun.

A 24-year-old Dayton resident was arrested for aggravated menacing after allegedly following an unmarked police car too closely and threatening the detectives in the vehicle, a police report states.

Police Detective Jason Rhodes said the driver was driving very fast behind the unmarked police car, following about six inches off the back bumper.

Rhodes said he recognized the license plate and vehicle from an incident almost seven weeks earlier in which the driver drove too close and aggressively behind his unmarked police unit.

Officers in an official police cruiser pulled over the driver and discovered he had a gun in the front seat, which he was legally licensed to carry, the police report states.

Official police units were on the way to pull over the driver when he allegedly turned his car perpendicular on the roadway, blocking the unmarked police car.

The driver allegedly then exited the car with a firearm in his hand, the report states.

The officers pulled out their police badges and exited their car with their weapons drawn.

The driver put his gun back in the car, which was later determined to be unloaded, the report states.
