Man with history of OVI picked up doing doughnuts in Kroger lot

A Dayton man was arrested for OVI Wednesday after preforming “half a doughnut” in a Kroger parking lot, according to a Dayton police report.

On Wednesday afternoon, Dayton officers finishing a traffic stop in the area of Tuttle Avenue, noticed a person — later identified as Jeffery Murdock, 30, — driving recklessly in the Kroger lot on South Smithville Road.

After fleeing for a block or so, officers were able to apprehend Murdock who had a strong stench of alcohol and slurred speech. In a search of the vehicle, officers found a half-empty bottle of Absolut vodka and a near-empty bottle of Wild Irish Rose.

Murdock would ensure officers that he was "really high," but not drunk, according to the police report.

He admitted to drinking late Tuesday night and that he also smoked a large quantity of marijuana prior to driving the car, police reported. The car did not belong to Murdock, but to his fiancee who was also on scene.

Murdock had an active warrant for OVI driving under suspension. He has two prior OVI charges in the last five years, according to Dayton police.

Murdock was taken to Montgomery County Jail.
