Riverside fire guts garage, part of house

A fire destroyed a garage and part of a house today, but everyone including the dog escaped without injury.

Riverside crews responded at about 5:15 p.m. to the 3500 block of Teaberry Drive near Arrowrock Avenue.

Neighbors reported seeing a lot of smoke emanating from the structure.

One witness said the family that lives there were all able to get out of the house. The family initially thought the dog was stuck in a backyard enclosure where a power line was down, but the dog apparently escaped and was roaming the neighborhood.

The attached garage was completely destroyed and the kitchen and dining room were extensively damaged, according to Riverside Battalion Chief Joseph Greil.

The family will not be able to stay at the home.

Greil said the cause was not determined. Police interviewed the homeowners and the State Fire Marshal has been called to investigate, Greil said.
