Five candidates are seeking to be elected to two Miami Twp. trustee positions on the November ballot.

Five candidates – including a pair of incumbents – are among those seeking two trustee positions on the ballot this fall in Miami Twp.

Andrew Papanek and Eric Flasher – who in April was appointed to fill the vacancy created by Robert Matthews Jr.’s resignation - are facing challenges from Don Culp, John Morris and Zebulon Music, according to the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

The township is a major suburban commerce corridor that is home to Austin Landing and the Dayton Mall.

Culp and Morris both applied for the opportunity to be appointed when Matthews stepped down. He resigned to avoid a potential conflict of interest after taking a job with Frost Brown Todd, LLC, a firm that has contracted with the township.

Music is seeking elective office for the first time. Papanek, who was elected in 2013 in a tight five-way race for two spots, has the most tenure on the board.

The two candidates who win in November will be elected to four-year terms and receive annual pay of about $20,000 a year, according to the elections board.
