‘Unserviceable’ U.S. flags retired in West Milton

One of several ceremonies to properly dispose of damaged U.S. flags was held in West Milton Sunday afternoon.

Members of the American Legion Post in Union Township, Miami County led the ceremony in which tattered, torn and otherwise damaged flags are put to flame.

Burning is the proper way to dispose of unserviceable American flags.

National Flag Day is the ideal time to retire the Red, White and Blue.

It’s a “dignified tribute to the U.S. Flag and its symbolism,” said the Commander of the American Legion in West Milton.
