West Carrollton challenger wins school board race by 72 votes

A challenger appears to have unseated an incumbent in the race for an unexpired term for a seat on the West Carrollton school board.

Joe Cox bested Deborah Bobbitt 51.17 percent to 48.83 percent with 100 percent of precincts reporting, according to the unofficial results from the Montgomery County Board of Elections.

The difference for Cox was 72 votes, according to the board of elections website. The winner will fill the final two years of an unexpired term. The seat pays $125 a month.

Bobbitt, who was first elected to the board in 2007, was appointed to a seat in January 2016 after failing to gather enough valid signatures to have her name on the ballot the for re-election the previous fall.

Because of the timing of the appointment, the term expires at the end of this year, according to the board of elections.
