The University of Dayton men’s basketball team will open its Atlantic 10 schedule against the two newest members in the league when it travels to VCU and then hosts Butler on Jan. 9 and 12, respectively, the A-10 announced Thursday.
VCU is coming off a Colonial Athletic Association tournament title, while Butler has been the flagship program in the Horizon League. The Rams and Bulldogs have combined for three Final Four trips in the last three seasons and are projected to be contenders for the conference crown along with Saint Louis, Temple, UMass and Saint Joseph’s.
Because the A-10 will have 16 members this season (Temple and Charlotte will leave for new leagues in 2013-14), each school will play every team once and its designated rival twice. The Flyers will visit Xavier on Jan. 30 and host the Musketeers on Feb. 16.
All of the Flyers’ league games will be played on either Wednesday or Saturday. UD will announce its tipoff times and TV schedule at a later date.
