Trainers carried Cunningham off the court and to the locker room. The entire arena fell silent. Ryan Mikesell filled in for Cunningham and made a free throw, completing a 9-5 run by the Flyers in the final 1:16.

The Flyers flew home from Tuscaloosa not knowing the extent of Cunningham’s injury. He will be examined on Wednesday in Dayton.
“Obviously at the end, we weren’t able to experience what a road win feels like with the uncertainty of Josh on the very last play,” Dayton coach Archie Miller said. “We don’t really know what’s going to happen there, but we could be in a situation where we lose him for a time here, but we’ll adjust and move on. We have Saint Mary’s at home on Saturday, which will be a very difficult game. We’ve just got to move forward and get ready for the next one.”
Asked about the specific’s of Cunningham’s injury, Miller said. “I think he’s got a leg injury. His knee’s a concern, and his ankle/lower leg is a concern as well. I didn’t see the landing at all, but obviously he came down awkwardly.”
Dayton senior guard Kyle Davis, who played with Cunningham at Morgan Park High School in Chicago, talked to Cunningham in the locker room.
“It was kind of an awkward fall,” Davis said. “You could tell him he was in pain. I asked him in the locker room, ‘What’s up?’ He said his foot hurt a little bit but nothing too major. Am I worried? Somewhat. Not that much, though. I know he’s a fighter. He said his ankle hurt more than his knee. I’m assuming he tweaked his ankle or dislocated it at the most. Hopefully we get him back in the next couple weeks.”
