High School Football: Minster falls in Division VII championship game

Turnovers and one of the state’s top defenses stopped Minster short of the Division VII state title Saturday. The Wildcats, playing in their second championship game in three years, fell 24-6 to Warren JFK at Ohio Stadium.

Minster, which had 15 turnovers all season, committed three in the second quarter, which led to a 10-6 halftime deficit. The Wildcats threatened in the fourth quarter but failed to convert a fourth-and-goal at the Warren JFK 8-yard line.

JFK’s defense, which came into the game with six shutouts, ends the season having allowed 98 points in 15 games. The Eagles allowed 29 points in five playoff games.

Minster’s loss was it’s first in three trips to the state finals and marks the first time in the four-year existence of D-VII that a team from the Midwest Athletic Conference did not win the title. Marion Local won in 2013 and 2014 and Fort Recovery won last season.

Warren JFK running back Evan Boyd set D-VII state finals records for rushing yards (166) and carries (36). He had two touchdowns.

MAC winning formula: No soccer, peewee football or transfers
