Beavercreek, West Carrollton softball win nail-biters

The Beavercreek girls softball team won a nail-biter on Tuesday night as the Beavers squeaked past visiting Miamisburg 13-12. Freshman Cierra Chastain earned the win in the season opener and got some offensive help from Kayla Dinsmore, who tripled, homered, and drove in 5 runs. Miamisburg made a valiant comeback in the top of the seventh, scoring 5 runs and had the winning run on base before Chastain induced an infield popup to end the game. The Vikings got a pair of two-run homers from Tess Corley and Chevy Hayslett.

West Carrollton 12, Carlisle 11: Freshman Madison Mills belted a three-run home run, drove in 5 runs, and picked up her first win as the Pirates survived a back-and-forth affair. In a game that saw seven lead changes, West Carrollton's Brooke Jewell ended it with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that plated Abby Tincher for the game-winner. Jewell also homered and double twice earlier in the contest, driving in a total of 4 runs. Carlisle was led by Morgan Glover who had three hits and an RBI, and Lilli Collins added a pair of singles and 2RBIs.

Russia 15, Fort Recovery 3: Kennedy Metz tripled twice, homered and had 5 RBIs for Russia (2-0). Katie Schwartz got the win.

Covington 18, Anna 1: Morgan Arbogast drove in three runs and got the win for Covington.

Madison 10, Brookville 7: Joey Brinegar launched a home run and had 2 RBIs for Madison. Natalie Higgins added three hits. Jamie Winterbotham had three hits, including a triple for Brookville (1-1).

Southeastern 6, Mechanicsburg 4: Southeastern scored four runs in the bottom of the first, and Katie Mitchell led off the bottom of the second with a home run to give the Trojans enough runs to hold on to the win. Becca Carpenter moved to 2-0 with the win and struck out six.

Monroe 16, New Miami 6: Alexis Arnold smacked a home run and drove in three to even Monroe's record at 1-1. Sarah Eschmeyer chipped in a pair of doubles and added 3 RBIs as well.

Fort Loramie 7, Coldwater 4: Janell Hoying doubled and homered for the Redskins. Toni Berning struck out 5 in the complete game victory.
