Ohio Sen. Brown has reason for wearing Dayton Dragons hat to Indians opener

Tuesday was the first home game of the season for the Cleveland Indians, the defending American League champs, and a day U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown wasn’t going to miss, although his attire was unusual.

Brown wore a Dayton Dragons hat to the game. In a video posted to his official Twitter account, Brown said he wore the hat because the Dragons were the first Ohio team free agent signing Edwin Encarnacion played for. The former Cincinnati Red played with the Dragons as a minor leaguer.

Encarnacion played with the Reds through 2009, when he was part of a multi-player deal that sent him to Toronto and third baseman Scott Rolen to Cincinnati. Encarnacion blossomed into a league-leading powerhitter in Toronto. He was signed by the Indians in the offseason and plays first base and designated hitter.

Brown further explained the Dragons record sellout streak and announced his support for the Indians.
