Ohio State responds to Michigan’s new threads the only way possible

Ohio State’s 100 percent inevitable response to Michigan aligning its football program with the Jordan brand “Jumpman” has arrived.

It took less than a week.

The Buckeyes’ relationship with LeBron James (an Ohio native and former all-state football player) is nothing new, but this is clearly an effort to return fire after their rival made a big splash last week with the unveiling of its new Nike apparel, including new football jersey’s with Jordan’s famous logo on the chest where many teams have worn the Nike “Swoosh” for decades.

Aside from aesthetics, how much this really matters in the long run remains to be seen. Either way, there’s no shortage of nice equipment for players on both teams, and neither of them have to worry about being subjected to the latest hideous adidas concoction, so it’s really a win-win.

The dual moves bring up an interesting debate, though: Which brand resonates more today, LeBron’s or Jordan’s?

If we’re surveying folks of all ages, MJ probably still carries it, but Meyer and Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh are certainly more worried about appealing to a younger demographic, one that was not born when Jordan played his last game and 5 or 6 years old when James made his NBA debut.
