Philly.com reports Rose is eligible to be voted onto the Phillies Wall of Fame this year, and columnist Bob Brookover expects that will ultimately result in Rose joining team greats such as Dayton native Mike Schmidt who have previously received that honor.

Rose, who spent five seasons in Philadelphia, was placed on the permanently ineligible list after an investigation into his gambling habits in 1989, but he was allowed to take part in a celebration of the All-Century Team in Boston in 1999.
The Hit King was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame last year, and the team is planning to unveil a statue of him this season.

It’s great for the man, his fans and his teams that he is no longer completely an outsider for something he did almost 30 years ago, but the permeability of his ban has an bad odor that gets stronger every time he gets another temporary hall pass.
If MLB is going to allow Rose to be around at all, maybe he should be all the way back in — not just when it’s convenient for the league or one of his former teams.
Of course, nobody has ever accused the people who run baseball of being bastions of common sense.
