H.S. Results for 12/27/16: Tippecanoe gives West Liberty first loss

Allison Mader scored 32 points Tuesday night and Tippecanoe recovered from a big early deficit to stun West Liberty-Salem, 52-45, handing the Tigers their first loss of the high school girls basketball season.

Tippecanoe (6-1) trailed, 17-8, after the first quarter. The Red Devils rallied behind Mader, who sank three 3-point goals during the game and clutch free throws down the stretch. Taylor Prall added 12 points for Tippecanoe.

Lily Yoder scored 13 and Gabby Hollar 12 for West Liberty-Salem (9-1). Only two of the Tigers’ first nine opponents had come within double figures before Tuesday.

Girls Basketball

Arcanum 57, Twin Valley South 34: Stevie Johnting scored 21 for Arcanum, Mylan Crews 14 for Twin Valley South.

Bogan (Ill.) 61, Kenton Ridge 55: Bogan (Ill.) is 13-1 after outlasting Kenton Ridge (6-3) in Cincinnati. Jamari McDavid (19 points, 13 rebounds) and Mikala Morris (15 points, 20 rebounds) led the Kenton Ridge effort.

Carlisle 56, National Trail 37: Christa Harris scored 8 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter and Cami Glover added 13 for Carlisle (6-2).

Franklin Monroe 50, St. Henry 43: Belle Cable scored 18 as the Jets improved to 7-3.

Miami East 62, Mississinawa Valley 33: Bailey Miller scored 30 points and Haley Howard had 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for Miami East.

Miami Valley 72, East Clinton 46: Alyssa Clements (23 points, 15 rebounds), Tia Karras (22 points) and Liz Bush (14) all had big nights for Miami Valley (8-1), which moved into tonight's 7:30 championship game of the Waynesville tournament.

New Bremen 53, Sidney Lehman 45: Kelly Naylor and Kayla Bergman scored 12 apiece for New Bremen.

Russia 60, St. Marys 44: Larissa Poling's 16 points helped Russia move its record to 8-1. Shania Taylor scored 17 for St. Marys (6-4).

Waynesville 58, Greeneview 44: Unbeaten Waynesville (9-0) will face Miami Valley in the championship game of its own tournament tonight at 7:30.

Boys Basketball

Alter 72, Cullman (Ala.) 42: Dominic Laravie scored 26 points and J.P. Schimpf 11 during the opening round of the King of the Smokies Christmas Classic in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Alter, which outscored Cullman, 48-14, during thte middle two quarters, will play Columbia Central (Tenn.) today at 2 p.m. in the second round.

Beavercreek 53, Hamilton 44: Peyton Young scored 18 points and Cedric Baldwin had 9 of his 11 points in the fourth quarter as Beavercreek (5-3) picked up a non-conference win. Jaylen Robinson scored 16 points, D'Marco Howard 14 for Hamilton (1-5), which was outscored, 18-11, in the fourth quarter.

Botkins 47, Minster 42: Luke Bergman scored 26 for Botkins.

Fairfield 48, Milford 45: Devonte Ross scored 16 as Fairfield moved to 5-1.

Graham 59, Riverside 45: Graham picked up its second win behind nine 3-point goals. Brevan King sank four 3-pointers on his way to 22 points and Andrew Ford three more on his way to 15 points.

Greenville 69, Stebbins 55: Aaron Rich scored 23, Isaiah Gable 18 for Greenville (4-2). Jonathon Mpanzu scored 11 of his team-high 16 points in the third quarter for Stebbins (4-4).

Madison 59, Milton-Union 46: Grant Whisman's 17 points and Mason Whiteman's 10 assists helped Madison vault over .500 (4-3).

Springfield 87, Cin. Aiken 57: Michael McKay and Danny Davis scored 24 points each and 12 players scored for Springfield (5-1).

Talawanda 52, Monroe 47: Evan James scored 13, Kelvin Reisenfeld 10 and Josh DeWitt had 9 points and 6 rebounds for Talawanda (3-4). Tristan Backas (22 points, 9 rebounds) paced Monroe (2-6).

Wayne 83, Tennessee High (Tenn.) 46: Wayne won big in the first round of the Arby's Classic in Bristol, Tenn. The Warriors will next face Buford (Ga.) in Thursday's 5 p.m. quarterfinals. Buford defeated Sullivan East (Tenn.), 65-58, in another first-round game.
