Steelers WR Browns says Burfict apologized for hit

According to a report from ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler, Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict apologized to Antonio Brown for the hit that left the Pittsburgh wide receiver concussed at the end of last year's wild-card playoff game.

The hit, which came when Brown went over the middle late in the game, drew a 15-yard penalty that was followed by another 15-yard flag on cornerback Adam Jones, setting up Chris Boswell's 35-yard field goal that lifted the Steelers to an 18-16 win at Paul Brown Stadium .

The concussion forced Brown to miss the divisional game at Denver, which the Steelers lost 23-13 to the eventual Super Bowl champions.

Brown said Burfict apologized to him when they crossed paths in Miami in the offseason, telling Fowler the linebacker was “just saying he didn’t have no intentions of trying to injure, that it was a football move.”

Burfict and Brown will be on the same field again Sunday for the first time since the hit when the Steelers visit the Bengals. The day after the wild-card game, Burfict received a three-game suspension for repeated violations of player-safety rules, which forced him to miss the Week 2 game in Pittsburgh, which the Steelers won 24-16 .
