CENTERVILLE — Fuyao Glass America is helping Centerville City Schools fund a new mobile learning station.

The Moraine windshield manufacturing business from China announced it would donate a $32,500 grant for the vehicle, which Centerville officials said would help the district connect with students and their families in the community.

Teachers and administrators will be able to use the station to host learning demonstrations, distribute resources or for other family engagement activities, according to the school district.

The mobile learning station will include Chromebook laptops, WiFi hotspots, STEM activities and other educational tools, Centerville officials said.

“We hope to provide more and convenient learning opportunities to the children in our community,” Fuyao President Zuogui Xie said in the announcement.

“At Fuyao, our motto is to create ‘A clear vision of tomorrow.’ We believe that in any era, learning is one of the best ways to pursue a clear and bright vision of tomorrow,” he added.

Xie is among several Fuyao employees who live in the Centerville-Washington Twp. community, according to the school district.

The goal of the mobile learning station is to help expand educational opportunities beyond school walls, said Cherie Colopy, Centerville’s director of elementary curriculum.

“We are always working on ways to enhance and change and develop our engagement with families,” Colopy said.

The district wanted a mobile station “that could go into the community and take the learning into neighborhoods” to connect with “some of the families that we’re having more trouble reaching” the past 18 months, she added.

Centerville officials hope to have learning lab in the district in a few weeks to “begin customizing the inside” and launch it in the spring, Colopy said.
