Another reminder of the great potential of the 2018 Ohio State offense

If you're an Ohio State fan not quite ready to get excited about spring football, this should do the trick.

Strategy guru Ian Boyd writes for SBNation about how based on the Buckeyes' personnel they left yards on the field last year and an explosion could come this year with a bigger passing threat at quarterback than J.T. Barrett:

When Ohio State was aiming to feature their skill players they could out-execute opponents and inflict painful, explosive plays with their speed. When the game was on Barrett’s shoulders as either a runner or a passer, the offense was not nearly as threatening.

I have already noted the personnel strongly resembles the player types OC Kevin Wilson had when his Indiana offenses were really humming, but big questions remain:

Will Urban Meyer really let Wilson and QB coach Ryan Day fully turn the page from his antiquated spread-option attack that has sputtered in big moments since Tom Herman left (and at times while he was still around), or will OSU continue to be hampered by an over-reliance on the QB run when the going gets tough?

And how good will the offensive line be?

Do check out Boyd's full post, which includes some nice illustrations of how Wisconsin matched up with the Buckeyes from an Xs and Os standpoint in the Big Ten championship game but still came up short because of a handful of explosive plays.
